When designing a website the most important thing to consider is the user experience (UX). The user must always be considered, and their experience, thoughts, feelings and ease of navigation are all things that should be of a high priority. The website should be a combination of a few key factors:
- Human interaction
To start, less is more. You don’t want to clutter the sight and overwhelm the user with information. Let the user discover information at their own pace. Using a wireframe is a great place to start. Then consider while browsing the site where the functionality should be. Would the user assume that clicking the logo would lead back to the main page of the site? Introduce function to the design to make navigation easier, but do not add too much interactivity, as you will distract the user from your important links.
On that note, make sure your main content is bold and stands out. Contrast it with color against the site, or add large pictures to draw the user’s eye. Bump up the font size or add a border. If you want to direct the user’s experience even more make good use of negative space. White space can look great aesthetically, while also adding function.
